Two Weeks Left To Load Stuff In The Truck And I’m Going To Make Each Day Count!

Okay, it is official and it’s high time I got serious about it - the time has come for us to leave Wellington. Two weeks from now the packers and movers will own this house; I mean, they are going to be all over and I hate it already. Another three days from then, we will bid farewell to this salubrious part of India and on the 4th day we will land in our new destination, where the scorching sun awaits.  Whether we are moving on for good or bad, or to a better place, I leave it to time to prove. However, I do have high hopes and expectations from the capital city; at least I will get to shop in big malls, buy trendy clothes, fancy exotic ingredients to cook with, attend a few courses and more! Oh, I can go on and on! When I am so looking forward to moving, let me not forget how much I hate packing!!! :-(

It is during such times I wish I lived in a fairy tale story; my Fairy God Mother would swing her wand and will have everything organized in boxes. Since such magic comes with an expiry time, the boxes would open up on its own at the destination and then the stuff inside would find its place in the new house. How convenient! Or if someone could lift up our current house and transfer it to the new location? If only I could find a way to implement these million dollar business ideas, but for now since I can only dream about such things, I better get ready for the physical torture that is in store for me. As a kid, I used to finish off the vegetables I hated the most from my dinner plate first and I think, I got to do just that here as well. Close my eyes get on with it and get done with it!

If not Fairy God Mother, the packers and movers, at least! So the plan is that they are to handle the major chunk and all we need to do is to oversee; well, that itself is a task. My main responsibility is to get the clothes sorted and packed. This includes jewelry, footwear, cosmetics and all such things that do not get counted as “household items”. I am very well organized at work front and I always end up thinking, only if I were as organized at home front too! Recently I shared a post on FB “We all know the chair” (the chair/s in the corner, where we dump all the wanted and unwanted stuff) and the situation at home is more or less the same. Once in a while I get into cleaning and organizing spree, but that hasn't happened for a while. So, apart from “those chairs”, I also have about 4 huge cupboards and a double cot with clothes and more of it to sort out. Phew!

So, do I have some plans up my sleeve, when I look forward to getting started with the packing menace? Well, we've been moving every other year and by now I've mastered the logistic angle of packing for relocation.  However, knowing it is one thing and getting it done is another! :-\ A few points I've been following are -

1. Let go of what I don’t use anymore

2. Pack for "living out of the suitcase stage"

3. Pack by season and frequency of use

4. Keep his and mine separate

There ends the strategy. More tips for packing clothes for moving, if any, are welcome! Every day, from April 1st to 12th, I will spend a few hours in the evening getting this done. I will work overtime on weekends and holidays :P. Two days before the large scale packing starts, I need to be done with my responsibilities to be able to keep the packers and movers on their toes. That’s another torture that awaits!

Until then wish me luck as I sail through this menace and learn a lesson to keep things organized forever in future!
