There Are Tea Drinkers And Then There Are Coffee Drinkers

I drink minimum 3 cups of tea a day and in colder weather, it goes up to 4 cups. I like it with less milk (full fat and not skimmed or low fat), a shaved teaspoon of sugar, a dash of crushed pepper and a heap of freshly grated ginger. It would then transform me into “a loner, a dreamer and a thinker” – leave me with my cuppa tea and let me wander free! Wow, even the thought of it is so intoxicating; cheers to all tea people!

Let me add I completely hate cardamom tea though!

Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against coffee; I like its aroma and the way it tastes too, but, getting that perfect blend in a cup is where I decided which side to take - my perfect cup of tea. If you have something, you got to have it the right way or not have at all! Or in other words, being a tea drinker or a coffee drinker is like being loyal to a religion; yes, you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

My husband, on the other hand, is a coffee drinker; but I still make better coffee than he does. :P

The weather here has turned peculiar in the past two days; intermittent showers around noon and I wonder why. Nevertheless, to me, it’s the best time – the time to snuggle in a corner with my cup of piping hot tea and scribble something in my laptop. Wonderful, it is! So that’s when something engaging crossed my mind and I began to analyse the tea and coffee drinkers I knew. Some say that the drink you choose depends a lot on the kind of person you are; I do not agree to that. What I think could happen is that the drink you are used to can have its effect on you. Well, I mean, tea is more of a tranquilizer and coffee a mild stimulant, both having distinctly different properties and so should be its effect on us. Sounds interesting? It did to me!

So are tea drinkers any different from coffee drinkers? Even I am not sure but let me just give it a try analyzing both.

Yes our personalities differ to some extent - We tea drinkers respect time and effort, and hence seem to have an aversion towards less organized way of living or doing things. We are bang on time every time and whatever we do, we seem to be meticulous, neat and organized. We are also kind of disciplined in our life and often have things in control. Yes, you got it right, basically we take life seriously.  I know I know, kind of boring, right!

Our coffee siblings on the other hand, may enjoy living their life in their own terms and in a little (if I may sugar coat) haphazard way. May be, they wish to do so much out of life that they end up a little off the track.

Our emotional quotients are far apart – We engage in our cup of tea for that quiet “me time”, so that may make us stay aloof from the rest of the world. We pretty much have our feet on the ground, like all the time. We may not flip out very easily, well that do not make us any less emotional, but may be slightly introvert!

Coffee people mostly enjoy their cup in a gathering and they are definitely people persons! They may be overtly expressive, emotionally loud and high-flung. May be this has to do with the distinctly different properties I spoke about earlier; what do you think?

Oh! We certainly don’t share same liking - Considering my interests and certain other tea drinkers whom I know, we are artistically inclined. And this inclination sort of governs our everyday life too; for eg: a piece of cloth we pick has to be the best, classy and perfect in all ways. We may even enjoy brainy stuff. Though being brainy or artistic does not make us any less logical. I can sit idle and self-confined as long as I wish to and on any given day, I would prefer spending time with my closed circle of friends than going out and meeting new people.

Our coffee counterparts wish to stay cool and may not be anywhere close to being artistic, although they wish to be.  But I do give it to them when it comes to logical applications, even though their attention span is less. I am any day a better navigator than my husband, although he is one by profession. Coming to social side of things, I think they like crowd, loud parties because sitting idle is quite hard for them to achieve; they have to do something or the other.

Can we be addictive when it comes to...? - Well, this is the best part. I love tea, but I can still survive without drinking it one evening or may be for a couple of days. I am not addictive. Same applies in my life too – I have nothing in my life that I am overly obsessed with. Let me think again…. No, nothing!

Drinking coffee may turn into a habit. For eg: when at work 10 o’ clock coffee is a must for him and even when on holidays, he gets restless unless he gets that cup at 10. Whether or not I make it for him, he makes sure he has that cup on time! Now what do you call that? He is addicted to reading, his comics, crickets and a lot other things too.

So that pretty much sums up my findings. Do you have some to share?

So are you a chic tea drinker or a “slightly on the crazier side” coffee drinker?
